Read This First: If you're new here or just want a clearer idea of what I do
Research, Analysis and Insights.
I am a London based retail investor who has made money, lost money, and learnt the hard way that markets reward discipline, not bravado.
This is my place to share a working understanding of companies, markets and trends in public, to test my ideas in the open, and to learn from a thoughtful crowd of readers who will always see angles I miss.
Currently my essays are free, because good thinking should be widely accessible.
My writing style is analytical, occasionally irreverent and quietly philosophical. Expect numbers, business models and balance sheets; questions about incentives, culture and execution; and the odd sideways reflection on luck, risk and what it means to build wealth over a lifetime rather than a quarter. This is crowd-sourced thinking, not sermons from a guru.
By background, I have built my career around solving complex, data-rich, stakeholder-intensive problems that have resulted in meaningful and positive change to customers, colleagues and clients. I am a self-taught analyst consistently learning and discovering patterns in reading accounts, annual reports and macro signals. I try to connect them with lived experience of how companies actually create or destroy value.
Nothing here is investment advice, and nothing I write should be taken as an offer, encouragement or nudge to buy, sell or hold any asset. Treat AlphaMonk as one input into your own process: a stream of research, analysis and insights to help you think more clearly, ask better questions, and build a portfolio – and an investing philosophy – that you can live with for decades.
Before making any investment decisions, I recommend you review my full disclaimer to understand my approach and responsibilities.
Thank you for reading and for considering AlphaMonk as your edge in today’s markets.
